Recent thoughts and photos

Hey guys, the title is plain because I was feeling a little less than creative 5 seconds ago.

Recent thoughts that entered my head:

1. Why does everyone dream of owning a Louis Vuitton bag when all I want is a Christopher Kane printed dress?

2. Why is CSI crack?

3. Am I really allowed to listen to Let Live and Let Ghosts a million times in repeat and be called normal?

4. How will my first race go?

(source build-africa.org)

Okay, so the first three are self explanatory but number 4 is a new one.

I run as a hobby from time to time around my neighborhood. I've been doing so for a while, but it's never consistent (I prefer doing more boot camp style cardio exercises, with variety in moves). But at work, I have a coworker who likes to run races, and he convinced me to join him on September 5th for the World Trade Center, Run to Remember 5k run.

It's going to be my first race and although I don't think it'll be as intense as that picture up there, I do think it's a big step for me. I've been training, and each time I've noticed I can go longer without taking a break and generally, I feel stronger. It's a good feeling and I hope it continues up til race day.

Wish me luck. :)

That pepper is burning my tongue.

Hello guys and girls, today I plan to do nothing.

Absolutely nothing.

Words were never strung together so beautifully.

The only things I do plan to do today is write on this bloggy, watch some CSI, and listen to Rooney.

I checked my emails this morning and was greeted by one saying I was one of 45 top dinner blogs of 2010 at OnlineSchools.org. I checked it out (sometimes I get spam so I really have to check everything) and scoured the homepage. It's actually a very nice site--I appreciate information being put together collectively for people to use. Check out the other blogs that were ranked too because they are pretty banging !

Speaking of banging (hey, don't blame me if your mind went there), these bagels are also pretty up the radar.

I went to Brooklyn Bagel in the wee hours of the morning to get one of these. Well, no, actually, I was already in the area and after having a 30 minute nap at the Rite Aid next door (I hope you know I'm NOT kidding), I decided a nice warm bagel was in order. I got the rye with cinnamon raisin walnut (I think that's what it's called?) cream cheese and t'was glorious. Seriously, these bagels are huge and worth the price.

I also have been craving Nutella recently.

HOW CAN YOU NOT?
I need to get myself a jar soon, so I can start spreading it's delicious chocolatey hazelnutty goodness on everything. Mmmmmmmmm, nutella omelets . . . (kinda joking)

If this post weren't random enough, I thought I'd just say that I did watch Project Runway's Season 8 Premiere.

And I thought Andy's and Gretchen's Looks were pretty boss. Man, I love me some black draping.

Anyway, I should probably jump off the computer and go watch some of that CSI I've been hankering. Hodges is slowly becoming one of my favs. Toodles guys!

I have been dying these past few days . . .

So I haven't updated in a few days due to an overload of work over at school. And it really never stops. After one thing is done, something else is assigned. So of course, I wanted to take a break this weekend, but it's not going to happen. I also wanted to write a paper for sociology to enter for a contest, but I don't have time, so I'll just have to finish it by the regular due date. Thinking about everything is quite sickening, so I'll spare you further details.

On another note, thank you to all those who gave advice on how to approach the aforementioned dilemma. I actually couldn't use your advice due to gym class being canceled, but will probably use it next week!

So a few things Ive been up to . . .

1. Yesterday, I saw Maya Luz in St. Marks.

And it's creepy because Project Runway people are everywhere! I've already encountered Kara Janx (season 2) twice in the past 2 or so months.
But I didn't know Maya was in NY now. She was/is one of my favs and I wanted to say hi, but got distracted and lost her. She was sporting some cute pink headphones though!

2. I borrowed my friend's camera in Flat Pattern class and took self timer pictures. HENCE THE SHAMEFUL CROPPING OF MY FEET.

-Yellow Sweatshirt from Uniqlo (one of my new favorites)
-Blue overalls
-Blue sparkly tights from Anna Sui
-Black boots from Double Decker

I'm surprised I usually wear more things and I've only got 4 items on!

3. Okay, so this is about 2 weeks overdue, but I finished my Draping Project #3 (?) It's a Dropped Sleeve with a Shawl Collar.

I apologize for the fact that you can't really tell it's a dropped shoulder. Since I'm already famous for my overabundance of design and overall general details everywhere-ness, I decided to make 42 flowers and sew 21 of them on each sleeve. I forget that muslin is HEAVY and making layered flowers and hand sewing them on would weigh the sleeve down. So unless there's an arm in there, the sleeve just kind of droops. But I'm really proud of it! This jacket hath garnered an A+.

I'm currently working on my term garment, which is the MOST IMPORTANT of them all and pretty much shows what you've learned this whole semester. I will be doing a dropped shoulder for this as well. Oh, and it will be fully lined and in fabric.
Pray for me!

4. I recently tried this flavor of Grown up Soda (GuS):

I don't really drink soda, and actually, I never really buy bottled drinks. But my friend always gets this in pomegranate flavor, and since it was on sale at Whole Foods, I gave it a whirl.
This one is Cranberry Lime. I remember liking Cherry Limeade when I was younger, so I bought it.
The flavor really grew on me! It's not too sweet (hence why it's for grown ups), and it was refreshing. My only complaint is the fact that there's less than 10% juice and the second ingredient was sugar. Even though it's not sugary at all. But I guess that means you're mostly paying for carbonated water? Well, it's definitely a way better alternative to coke. And again, I liked the taste.

That's about it for now! I'm off to eat lunch, get some cardio in, and go to school! Have a good Friday everyone!

Zac Posen and Project Runway

Okay, so my verdict on the new Target Collabs is thus:

Zac Posen = Win
Jean Paul Gaultier = . . .

Obviously, this is solely based on my opinion. And yes, I have friends that like the Gaultier collection. And no, this isn't a competition. Just, if a pop up shop comes up in the near future of these releases, you'll know which one I'm going to be spending my money at.

I'm a little (let's face it, a lot) bias towards Zac Posen because I love him and admire him. But I really dig the collection mainly because of two reasons:

1. It's actually really Zac, despite the fact that it's a collaboration line.

2. Fun, funky, and quirky, which is great also for the upcoming season. That, and colors galore.

I guess I'm not digging Gaultier's because it's a little . . . confusing to me? It's not so much my aesthetic. I also am not on board when it comes to the whole weird tattooed skin looking clothing. I mean, tattoos are fine, but I don't really get why I would want to wear clothes like that. My friend who likes the collection though might convince me otherwise. I guess it all depends on how it looks in person!

Now, I'm a little late on commenting on the now 7th Season of Project Runway. But what's a girl with basic cable to do? So like any little curious girl with some time on hand, I googled, and realized I could watch it on the OHP!

After watching the first episode, I made my list of Top 3:

1. Amy Sarabi
2. Maya Luz
3. Jay Nicolas Sario

Those are in no specific order as of right now, but they are the three that based on their portfolio, is what I liked to see. Obviously if they can't work under time constraints constantly, then it might pose a problem. But I would like to see what they do in the next few challenges/episodes.

Also, I'm really glad the show is back in New York. I mean, it just makes more sense. And I don't know if this is the reason why, but overall, I like how this season started off more than season 6 (I gave up watching last season actually, after episode 3). Well, no, I think I like this season more because the people on this season are more socially likeable.

Those were my 2 cents on those topics. I'm off to eat lunch. Auf Wiedersehen!

Imaginary Christmas List

Happy Christmas Eve everyone! I hope it's full of lovely delicious scents and time spent with loved ones! [insert Hallmark moment]

So I thought it'd be fun to stray away from my usual posts and write a pretty late Christmas list. Here's the catch though: it's my imaginary list. As in, I don't think I will be getting any of these things (except in my dreams), but it'd be so fun to write!
Anyone out there reading this and have a blog or facebook or etc, I encourage you to do the same! And link me (I'm curious to see everyone's lists).

Okay, here goes.

------------------------------------------------

Aya's Imaginary Christmas List

1. End of Recession
I googled happy business people . . .

2. A house in Whole Foods Union Square (oh, the convenience . . . )

3. Be Karlie Koss for one day (or uh, a week, you know . . . )

4. Zac Posen Internship ([spazz])

5. Those Nina Ricci shoes

6. Be a random cameo in The Office

7. Funky Fendi clutch (darn you shiny clutch)

8. Lifetime supply of yogurt and fermented soybeans (natto)

9. Free college tuition (I know you all agree with me)

I think that pretty much completes my imaginary Christmas list. Now I'm going to go and continue watching touching Jim and Pam moments on youtube. Have a nice Christmas Eve/Christmas everyone!
