A few days ago, I met up with my friends Yijia and Yujing, plus her friend Tara for some good ole' fashioned shopping and eating.

We went to this Malaysian restaurant called New Malaysia Restaurant. They're located at 48 Bowery (between Bayard St & Canal St) .

After trying to decide what to order for a super long time, we ended up with these three dishes (above). Everything we ordered tasted REALLY GOOD! They all had great flavor. Sadly, I was stuffed before coming, so I barely ate most of it. However, I did try everything at least once and I give it all a thumbs up. I need to come back on an empty stomach, because there were so many other things that sounded great!

After eating, we headed to Soho for some retail therapy. I saw this truck outside the Top Shop store.

They were giving away keys to unlock a wardrobe to win prizes. I tried but failed. It was fun though.

Then I tried a denim dress on at Zaras. I however, decided to buy a top instead.

Work has been going on all week, so I had to stock up on a few items for easy food. This is a salad I managed to make, with some NUT BUTTER CRUSTED TOFU!!! I got the recipe HERE from Mama Pea, but then I tweaked it according to how I liked it/what I had. T'was amazing.

Then I went shopping at TJ's recently so I can make myself some homemade energy bars. Woo hoo for saving money, huh?

Yes, I label my foods. My fam likes to snack, if you get what I mean. ;)

The bars, flavor wise, came out GREAT. But I can't post the recipe yet because the texture is not quite there yet. I'll have it the next time I make another batch. Until then, I had to finish this one, so I prepped lunch for work.

Finally, I bought what has been on my list forever.

A Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler!!! I totally mentioned how much I wanted this before on the bloggy, and decided to treat myself. Mainly because the curler I use now is my mom's Revlon, and it has already damaged my lashes numerous times in painful ways, so I knew I had to get this. Oh Shu, you make me happy. Just look at it glisten atop my WWD.

Oh man, and did I mention it really works? It's got a much firmer spring action, so it don't clamp down too far like the Revlon. And after applying mascara, I definitely see the difference. I am happy now.

I'm feeling pretty good!

Hi everyone! Today (or right now), I'm feeling GREAT! I don't really know what it is, although I have an inkling it's the weather! After a week of downpour, these past 2 days or so have been A-MAZING. I hope it continues, because it would suck going back to school under grey skies.

P.S. Is grey spelled with an "a" in-between, or an "e"? I've seen it both ways . . .

So my camera is back . . .

And I managed to photograph breakfast from a day or so ago? Sadly not the french toast but it was still good!

I believe it is strawberry season. I got a box of these for $0.99 at Chelsea Market! SCORE! I think I seriously need to live there because Food Network AND NY1 is there. I mean, think about it, that's like breathing the same air as Bobby Flay AND Pat Kiernan! (although I am a bigger Alton Brown fan)
Oh, but back to these strawberries, yes . . . they were good. I think I'll go get some more today!

If anyone knows me, they know I carry around tea bags. I recently stocked my little carry around stash . . .

Highly recommended for tea lovers.

Then I've recently been eating this a lot:

I love dried fruits in general, and prunes are delicious! I love them in oatmeal or on its own.


Yesterday I helped my mom clean up our other apartment in Brooklyn (the one we rent out). There was a guy that stayed there for 7 months recently, so we were cleaning it up for the next person that was coming in from Africa (cool beans!)
Anyway, the guy left some goodies in the pantry:

Whole wheat pasta, brown rice, and cooking spray! Haha, you can probably tell I was excited since this kinda food is right up my ally. That, and I find groceries are just the best gifts. EVA.



To keep up with this food trend, I went out to Flushing with my friends on Wednesday and had some food at this place called West (?) Normally I remember names of places, but we were hungry and just chose a random place. The food and service were all pretty average so there's not much to say, however, the pricing was good!

Basically what's going down is the store, after opening it's doors last year in April, is doing a celebration to commemorate this event. They're having giveaways, photo-ops, cake and tea (yum!), live music (I suspect djs), and if you spend $100, you get a limited edition 1-tank (shown above).
It might be cool just to check out all the hullabaloo. I'll be around today actually taking a break from school work and doing something fun for once so maybe join me?

Holy Macoroni guys! 101 Posts

Without realizing it, I had made my 100th post. And now this is my 101st. Woot, progress!

So to celebrate this auspicious day, I have pictures of my yesterday (it's more interesting than I just made it seem)!

I had a nice "girls day out" yesterday with my friend Anna. We went to Soho (I believe I am here too often) and looked around Uniqlo, Zara, Mango, etc. My feet hurt after a while; shopping is quite a sport.

Again at Mango. I loved this sweater! It'd probably look cute on it's own or layered. My only problem was the fact that it cost $60.

I also found a great jacket at Zara but the sleeves were a tad long. Right now I just want to buy things that are perfect the way it is, since spending money on things I have to alter seems time consuming and a bother. However, I may go back to Zara because I did see a few other things I may want to try on (I know, shame . . . )

I did end up buying tights at H&M. They're salmon pink, like the rest of my legwear. But both my pink tights/leggings are ripped, so I had to buy another pair.

A Quickie Update

Oh, and to make this post not as boring, I was watching Pretty Woman yesterday. I never actually watched it all the way through before (or if I did, it was when I was little and knew squat), and I gotta say, I loved it! A person like Julia Roberts is probably born only every millennia. I thought her and Richard Gere were perfect.

Speaking of, I also found the wardrobe to be perfect. It was released in 1990, which was pretty much just when the 80s were ending, but everyone still has that kind of big hair/stiff pouf bangs that I like so much. And on top of that, the dresses Julia Roberts wore made me too happy.



The best parts of the movie though were the parts involving the hotel staff and the store people. Example A (when Richard Gere and Julia Roberts goes to buy some lady-like clothes to replace Julia's hooker garb)

Hollister: Exactly how obscene an amount of money were you talking about? Just… profane, or really offensive?

Edward: Really offensive.

Hollister: [to himself] I like him so much.

That kind of rocked my world.

Finally, the music, again, is right up my alley.

I need to own this film in the future.

Happy New Years everyone!

Hey everyone! It's a new year! 2010! And a new decade. I hope the next decade is great because I'm pretty sure at this point, the past 10 years cannot be topped. Actually, the past year in general pretty much blew my mind. So let's see how 2010 compares to 2009 (I'm so going to need time getting used to writing 2010 on all my papers)


I finished typing up lovely resolutions. My main one is to be a better person. And then I think everything will follow from there. That, and to stop procrastinating so much.

So I have pictures from my lovely spring cleaning episode. It's quite hilarious actually . . .

What's funny is that that's my desk halfway through the cleaning process. Yes, it was worse before (do you see a trend? First locker, now room . . . )

Okay, so minus the fact that I still need to vaccuum and stuff, I'd say BIG change. 3 cheers for cleaning!

This is a bonus picture of . . . yesterday? It started to snow so of course, I snapped the picture. Who knows how many more snow days we'll have in the future?



After it stopped snowing, I went out real quick and walked the streets of Soho. I stopped by Sephora and decided to get this Clinique brow pencil after reading the good reviews on the website. Okay, so there was one deep brown left (thank god). Sadly, that's the darkest shade because apparently they stopped making the "soft black". I'm fine with it because my hair is slightly browner in the light/my wigs are also slightly brown/I read somewhere eyebrows should be a slightly lighter color than the hair anyway. I have yet to try it but I bought it because I'm a longtime user of Clinique products and I find them long lasting and really effective, and they don't over decorate themselves. If anything, I'll write up a small review another time.

Anyway, New Years foodie pictures will come next time! Ciao guys!

The throat hurts and spring cleaning!

I think I may be either sick or just coughing up a storm because my throat feels all scratchy again. It may also be because I've been cleaning up my room and all the dust is in the air . . .


Oh yeah! So it's Spring Cleaning time! Except it's not Spring. But remember that episode on The Office where Oscar called in sick on Spring Cleaning Day? And well, it wasn't Spring. And Michael is like if we do it now, guess what we don't have to do in the spring? That's right . . . cleaning.

Recently went shopping a bit in Soho. I kind of wish I went to a few more stores. Maybe I'll have time after cleaning.

Two things I tried on at Mango. I ended up not getting either because although they were cute, I just wasn't feeling it. But there was one other dress I wish I had tried on because it was pretty nautical (although not very casual).


Went to Lush! That place is a trap because I always go in not expecting to buy things, and then I do. This was a great deal though because the soaps (and the items with stars on them) are Buy One, Get 2 Free so I just got 3 fabulous soaps.
Sexy Peel is lemony and supposed to be for toning. Sultana is this white milky soap with nuts and fruits on top. This one is for moisturizing. The Angel's Delight is supposed to be just for fun. They all smell great and I will be using these very soon!


And of course, food.
This is spaghetti my mom made yesterday! She went shopping at Whole Foods and came home with a lot of food. We usually do tomato sauce in our spaghettis but since she came home with shrimp, I suggested using it and voila! Our dinner!


I also tried this fancy looking chocolate ice cream. I'm pretty sure the packaging is to up the fancy factor but I prefer the paper containers on the regular ice creams because when you're scooping, you don't freeze your hand as much (seriously, frozen metal tins are cold).
The flavor however is lovely! It was dark chocolate and I love dark, so I was quite satisfied. Not super sweet and really refreshing.

A Late Turkey Day

I know, I fail at posting things exactly on the day it happens . . . well, just imagine you're traveling back in time with me and all will seem more magical and lala-licious.


So I hope everyone had oodles of fun on Thanksgiving! As for me, I did the usual i.e. watch the parade on television because I could never find a good seat if I went, and then spaced out.

Lunch came rolling along . . .

I know, typically Asian. But it warmed me up quite well!

Then, as if that wasn't enough, my dad was all "Let's eat some cake!" And boy, was it big . . .

Sorry, it got crushed a bit.

It's a cheesecake from Fairway. I've had this before. Not the biggest fan because it's REALLY thick, and they don't use the fruits when its ripe (for example, the kiwi is pretty hard and sour). I discovered (after having to eat it a few days later), it's best to scrape off the fruits, rinse off all that custard, scrape off the top of the cheesecake and take off more custard, and then eat it. That makes it less sweet which for me is perfect.

Well, anywho, the rest of the day I rolled on the ground.

Dinner was low key. Actually no turkey this year! I had pork that we had in the freezer. There was also lotus root (I think that's what it is in English? Maybe not?), potato, and spinach and bean sprout mix. Everything was lightly seasoned (I may have preferred more flavors but thus is the Asian way . . . )

Everything is quite brown. But not to complain, I thought it was still good! And who doesn't love a nice home cooked meal?


Black Friday was probably the most exciting~! I hung out with ultra cool people and bumped into some ultra cool peeps as well~

I think the highlight of that day was UTRECT'S FREEAAKING BEFORE NOON ART SALE 40% OFF. Oops, sorry, my grammar sucks from all the excitement. But yeah, I got some coveted oil painting supplies while studying all the stereotypes that work at that store (of which I LOVE NO JOKE this is not an insult)

Mmmmmmmmm . . . art supplies . . .

Then I headed to Uniqlo where I got this awesome bag~ (pictures later), that came with an awesome magazine that looked a little something like this:

The second one is my fav outfit outta the mag, but alas, that dress isn't from Uniqlo . . .

After all of that, I wandered into one of my other favorite stores . . .

LUSH!!!

Two bath bombs . . . I should remember the name because I get their newsletter things in the mail and I read it meticulously, but I don't . . . I just know they smell REALLY GOOD.


FINALLY THE BEST FOR LAST. On the way to going to the MOMA (of which my friend and I left after finding out Tim Burton was sold out for the night but it was okay because we went to the MET and saw Vermeer instead), I stopped by Magnolias.

AND I TOLD YOU I WOULD GET THIS EVENTUALLY:

Yes, the blurred picture does it no justice. But that my friends is heaven in a cup, formerly known as Magnolia's Banana pudding. It's a size small, but boy is it filling. This is one with cinnamon on top (yum!)
It totaled to $4.50. I say it's worth it for a once-in-a-while treat. Besides, the recipe is also online so pretty much after the first time, you can make it yourself at home.

That Cute Little Japanese Store in Soho

I personally think that Soho has just about everything I could ask for in a neighborhood: really cute shops (both big and small), trendy people, good eateries or near neighborhoods with good eateries, and an artsy vibe. That being said, I visit every store with enthusiasm and high expectations.

Now, if any of you remember that little Tokyo Joe incident I had way back when, then you'll know that a store could be carrying nice things but be run by terrible people. And I can't tell you enough how much of a turn off that is. But isn't it most refreshing when the store carries adorable things, is run by adorable people, and is in a neighborhood you really like?


This is when Kiteya comes in.


Kiteya Soho, at 464 Broome St between Greene and Mercer St., is a Japanese boutique filled with things from Kyoto in Japan. Kyoto is a city that is known for the old traditions of Japan, ranging from food to architecture to clothing. Kiteya takes these traditional elements and uses them in their merchandise. They have things such as flower hair accessories, Japanese rice paper, handbags accentuating Japan's "simple yet elegant" philosophy, kimono add ons, incense, and even children's clothing with cute prints and words.

I also mentioned the people working there being really fantastic. Well, I don't lie. They greet you with a smile, they don't push things on you, and they're energetic. The boss also has some snazzy glasses, which is always a plus.
