Lindsey Wixson W Korea November Issue

Hey guys, how is everyone? New York is brittle outside these days and my face is frozen like an ice cube! That being said, I am nice and toasty right now and ready to post some editorials!

I don't know what it is about Lindsey Wixson. I was not the biggest fan of hers. But I am slightly obsessed with the recent editorial with W Korea. The cover is flawless.

J'adore!

I also have some other fashion related news that gets me in a frenzy. We all know I love the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. And with the actual show being 1 week away, many have reported which model is walking and which isn't. I was a bit saddened by the news that Rosie Huntington-Whiteley will not be walking this year, HOWEVER, guess who is walking this year?

Karlie Kloss. My absolute FAVORITE.

I wish her all the best. As for my readership, please keep warm and talk to you all soon!

Editorials I love ft. Vogue China March 2011

I usually don't like Lindsey Wixson. I have nothing against her personally. I'm just not the biggest fan of her looks (and her sky rocketing popularity). That said, I can't say enough good things about the latest editorial she was in for the March edition of Vogue China.

Some seriously fierce leg-wear going on.

School days, jackets, and look alikes

Hey everyone! I've been having an awesome week this week, getting work done early and making conversations with people I usually don't make conversations with. I may also be getting a handle on this time management thing (although I have many things I would like to finish today!) so hope this also continues.

Two outfits from this week!

Taken in the locker room of my school:
-Knit hat from my friend in Sweden
-Fake glasses
-Uniqlo pink starry tank
-Denim shirt from Gap
-Denim jeans
-Knit leggings from Gap
-Payless boots

Sorry, I was making a weird face!
-Black hat
-Dress from Buffalo Exchange (but it's H&M)
-Long wig and skull hair tie from this sweet Japanese girl I met in a bookstore (*we bonded over a band and she gave me the hair tie because one of the members of the band had the same one)
-Lacy tights from Urban Outfitters
-Knee highs (actually, they're thigh highs but I pushed them down) from Anna Sui
-Double Decker boots

This week, we finished and presented our fashion art projects in class!

It was a J. Crew design project. My "story" was that a girl was going to study abroad at Oxford University, and she needed clothes. That's why I wanted some preppy elements while still being casual and feminine (which is what J. Crew is).

I also finished my draping jacket!! This, for some reason, I finished two days before (ridiculous because last time I was up until who knows when the night before), and well, you know I love my drama, so . . .

I made this!
I know, at a glance, it looks like a clown jacket. I contemplated the color of the buttons for a while, but seriously, it's a quirky jacket, so why not use red plastic buttons to amp that factor up?
Well anyway, look closely. You'll see that the collar is made up of individual hands! The pockets, which I have my friend demonstrating the use of in the 2nd picture, are also in the shape of hands. So yes, this was the ultimate "handy" jacket.
My teacher seemed to like it as well, and gave me another A+! I really hope this streak continues. I love unconventionality.

I forgot to mention but a girl from the Make A Wish Foundation came into our draping class on Thursday when the jackets were due! Her dream is to become a fashion designer, hence the visit. Since I had finished my jacket early, I really thought it'd be cool to make her a small gift.

Enter quirky animal push pin yet again. I actually thought at one point I wouldn't have the chance to give it to her since she was leaving early, but the professor finished his demo just in time. She was really sweet and seemed to like it. Hopefully she can use it in the near future!

I had another major project due this week for photoshop but no pictures of that. I did however make maybe one of the most important discoveries of the century in that class:

Chris Benz and Karlie Kloss LOOK IDENTICAL

Needless to say, I'm pretty wigged. That, and I can't believe it took me until now to see it. I guess all I needed was just one good class where I can read about/stare at designers on the computer and not be scolded for not doing work.

I started spazzing and made everyone interested come and see my discovery, and yes, they all saw the resemblance! My professor was even all "maybe they're the same person."

And you know what?

THEY MAY AS WELL BE.

They're both awesome anyway~

So on that note, I'm going to skidattle my way over to google to do some research for Fashion Art's next project. Adios~

Tokyo Fashion Festa Full Report!

Hey guys, so because I have some time (what am I kidding? I have textiles homework!), I have a full report and pictures for you guys on the Tokyo Fashion Show that went on at FIT last Friday. It was full of laughs, tears (some shoes were too big on girls . . . although no actual tears, these were internal), and cam whoring.

Beforehand I will apologize for my sucky camera. I edited the pictures but they still manage to be grainy!

So I will quickly explain what went down all week prior to Friday: Basically, a week in advance, I went to auditions and met the man in charge of this event. This man happened to be a man I worked with before (when I was doing translations for a Japanese girl group, AKB48). He remembered me, and after a long conversation, I kind of was designated translator for Aoki Misako.
After a few days of late night calling (not shady at all) and planning, on Thursday, I was surprised with a quickie interview between Misako and the head of the school, Valerie Steele. This was confusing because I thought it was done while I was in class, but this was not so, so after much trepidation, I did my job. Much of the interview was about the word "kawaii" (cute) and it's connection to lolita, and overall it was a great interview. Then I was even more surprised when previously mentioned man told me I would be spending the whole day with Misako. Sadly, I had classes and photoshop was a class I could not miss a class of! So I declined. However, I did accompany her around my break of 12-2, where I took her to Macys and around Herald Sq.

Highlights:

1. Conversations with Misako about cold NY weather, trying to recommend cool places in NY and failing (she knew like all of them), and bonding over Johnny Depp after seeing a billboard for Alice in Wonderland
2. Misako's cute scared reaction to the old escalators in Macys (the weird wooden ones that clank)
3. Going into shady sock/underwear shops
4. Her shoes!!!!!!

It all ended with me bringing her back to school and me having to shlep my way back to class.

FRIDAY

Worst cold of my life (okay, so it was just the sniffles actually but it seemed worse since it was supposed to be an awesome day)
I was supposed to pick Misako up from the Roosevelt Hotel but had to report in sick. Another person went instead (I know, I fail, but I didn't want to spread my viral germs!) So I went backstage to hang out with my friends who were modeling for the show.

Sound check in progress.

Top picture from left: Sandra, Linda, Tara
According to Tara, she had about 50 pins in her hair (extensions). The hair looked fabulous though. Everyone also had these great falsies.

There was a lot of time in between rehearsals and show, so there was food to be had and the models did test walks. I sat and asked if there was anything to do. Misako came in much later, donning on pink loli!

My face is odd here, but after she recognized me (had on a wig the day before, and a wig again), we took pictures!

She left for a few seconds to take care of business, so I managed to take a quick picture of her cutely deco-ed out Hello Kitty camera!

Then people started to get ready for the show! Dresses and head pieces and shoes flew everywhere~

What emerged:

There was also a speech that Misako and a woman named Arielle had to give, that was rehearsed for a little while. After that, the real one was given, and the show began! Girls went out, girls came back. And round two began . . .

I really hate that the nails shot turned out to be such a blur because they were GORGEOUS. Really, there were probably 2 dozen nail sets (maybe more) for various outfits. The nail people even moisturized every girls' hands and gently took them off when they were back. I loved them.

Also in the first pic of this batch with Tara, there is a man wearing red and black in the background. He was SUPER nice and I had fun working with him. He didn't work/call me to death like aforementioned man (sorry, aforementioned man).

After the girls left another time, I had to head to the other dressing room where MOA and Misako had their stuff. I was helping the dresser assigned to Misako in case there were some things that needed to be translated. There was a bit of a struggle with the assembling of the outfit because I realized later the picture they gave us actually was not the outfit in question.

This was the outfit however:

The skirt was AMAZING! I really loved it. It was basically 4 blouses sewn on a skirt, and the sleeves were tied together to create bows. I LOVED IT, and Misako rocked it.

And me being the camera happy person I am, after Misako left to go out with the kids, I took a picture of my outfit (well, had a picture taken)

My nose started to match the red accessories I had on.

While I was inside, I also took pictures of some of the cute stuff!

In order, Misako's own clothes, bags and make-up, shoes!
I really love her shoes. I love sparkly pink things, and well, the fact that they're also Emily Temple Cute just made it a hundred times better. I actually asked about them the day before and she said she was kind of tired of the clunky loli shoes, and wanted something that would make her legs appear more lady-like (hence the tiny heel on them).

After that, the show pretty much ended with the Hide collaboration yukatas (of which I loved the big hair). Here is a snapshot of Linda and Misako.

The show was great and everyone worked their butts off! The big reason my shots are mostly blurs are because everyone was running around (shush, not an excuse!) But everyone did such a fantastic job, and the turn up was insane! Lolitas everywhere! And everyone was dressed so snazzy that I wish I was also on the audience end. The modellas and stylists were great, and I made more friends! Hope there's another gathering like this soon . . .

The day ended like this: Tara, our friend Kate, Linda, Tara's friend Laura, and I went to Woorijip for food. Conversation and company: topnotch. Creepers and guys hitting on Linda: not so much. But all was fun.

Gasp! We all got the same drink! It's actually that good . . .

And so ended our exhausting day. And no, I did not go back to school to work that night (however, the whole weekend, I did come into school to drape). But lets leave on a happy note. I hope you guys all enjoyed this post!

Oh, and speaking of losses

I forgot but losses reminded me, I saw The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus yesterday, featuring the late Heath Ledger.

I thought it needed to be separate from the last post I made 5 minutes ago because, well, adding it to a post about losses would depress me deeply.

Although this movie surely did not depress me.

If I was to write a summary on this movie, I really wouldn't be able to do such a fair job of it. I missed the first 5 minutes or so, but don't get me wrong, if you miss the first 5 minutes, it's not too dire. But this movie is overall pretty confusing and VERY TRIPPY.
Okay, so confusing in the sense that there were some parts I didn't get (like, maybe the ending and how it resulted into it), but it's more trippy than anything. The Imaginarium is basically about a "traveling theatre troupe" (as Wiki called it), and one day they find Ledger's character, Tony, hanging off a bridge. They save him and soon Tony becomes part of the team. What you don't find out until later is who Tony really is and what his intentions are. The rest of the plot revolves around a wager Dr. Parnassus made with Mr. Nick concerning his daughter Valentina.
This story also takes place between the real world and the imaginary world behind the mirror, which IS the imaginarium.

Okay, so I thought it was fantastic that they actually made and released the film and decided to include the new actors as Heath in the other world. It made sense because nothing made actual sense in this movie's world.

Also, it's pretty hilarious. I love the midget jokes. And Anton was ADORABLE.

Finally, to actually tie this review to what my blog is supposed to be about, I am going to say aesthetically, everything is SO LOVELY. Lily Cole, who also plays Valentina, is also an English model, which explains so well how good everything looked on her. I will say I am really picky when it comes to acting, so alongside veterans she seemed slightly more amateur, but she was good.

In the real world, they all dressed in layers with a plethora of colors and patterns (they were performers afterall).
In the imaginarium, anything went really. Cole was mostly dressed in flowy gowns that showed some skin on top but usually came all the way down to her feet. Ledger's character mostly wore the white suit above (except for when they first found him). Percy (the dwarf) may have had equal or more costume changes than Cole, some of which included ridiculous monkey costumes and a small black boy costume.

Some of Cole's outfits:

Overall I recommend watching it, especially while it's in theaters to get the full effect. And stay until after the credits if you want to hear a certain ringing . . .

Agyness Deyn is always downtown . . .

Hey, so Rodarte for Target rant guys.

I was scouring the Target website and looking at reviews of the Rodarte for T collection. I just don't get the people who are complaining about the quality being cheap. I mean, writing about it is fine and I think it definitely should be mentioned. But were people really expecting the best quality?
I think Target collabs are more about collaborating on design and vision then making the materials they use any better. I mean, that is why the price points aren't that high to begin with. That, and there's an actual NAME on it, so that must be the major selling point.
I, as a consumer, would LOVE it if what I bought lasted a long time. But a. those are the things you should invest in i.e. spend good money on, and b. you can't expect a commercialized ready-to-wear store to give you amazing quality. Not ragging on Target, but just saying that there has to be that difference or who would go shopping anywhere else, right? And there's also a long thing about using better materials and less profit, but I won't get into that.

That was pretty much all of that.

So, not that it's a big deal or anything but kinda walked by Patrick Robinson and Agyness Deyn on the street today. Which is weird because well, nobody expects to walk down the street and bump into two known fashion people in a day . . .

Oh, by the way, my very calm treatment of this situation is a complete mask because you all know I am a major spazz about these things.

[insert spazz]

Yeah . . .

Oh, but no pictures. Especially since both people were with other people and it just didn't seem like the right time to be making a fool of oneself (cold weather will do this to you).

So I'll leave you even chillier by posting a picture of myself roughly one year ago.

Freezing.

In the cold.

In Central Park.

Later everyone!

Not that I'm surprised . . .

But the Cut knows what they're talking about.

I love Karlie guys. I've said it once and I'll say it again. Love that girl.
